Anxiety
Anxiety disorders run a spectrum of diseases from general anxiety to severe post traumatic stress disorder (and everything in between). While anxiety disorders can be predicated by a stressful event, they can also be ever present with waxing and waning intensity.
A few common anxiety disorders are as follows:
Panic disorder - Recurrent unexpected panic attacks characterized by multiple somatic symptoms.
Agoraphobia - Fear or being in places or situations in which escape may not be possible, may be difficult or embarrassing.
Social phobia - Persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations in which a person is concerned about negative evaluation or scrutiny by others.
Specific phobia - Persistent fear that is excessive and unreasonable, queued by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - OCD is made up of two things, obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are recurrent or persistent thoughts that are persistent and inappropriate, while compulsions are repetitive behaviors in which the goal is to reduce or prevent anxiety or stress.
These behaviors cause significant social impairment. Depending on how debilitating one's anxiety is, treatment can range from simple psychotherapy to a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
