Depression

Depression has many presentations. It can be associated with different medical illnesses, spiritual crises, substance induced, life events, manifestations of a genetic disorder that is passed down in the family or medications. Depression can have substantial symptoms with different levels of severity and is typically recurrent over a lifetime.

Some symptoms might include changes in appetite, sleep, motivation, enjoyment in life, social withdrawal, suicidal or homicidal thoughts, memory problems, tearfulness, and might even interfere with self care activities. This mood state is classified as more severe and has substantial morbidity and dysfunction. There are less severe forms of depression that might also benefit from treatment. Treatment includes anything from psychotherapy to medication and psychotherapy, to hospitalization.
